Answers to common questions about Rill. Because Rill has no accounts and stores everything on your iPhone, there’s nothing to sign in to or recover online.
Widgets
How do I add a Rill widget?
Home Screen: touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the apps jiggle, tap Edit → Add Widget, search for Rill, pick a size and tap Add Widget.
Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize → Lock Screen, tap the widget area and choose a Rill widget (a circular progress ring or a rectangular progress bar).
Can I log water from the widget?
Yes. The small and medium Home Screen widgets have an add button that logs your quick-add amount without opening the app. Lock Screen widgets show your progress but don’t have a button.
My widget isn’t up to date. What should I do?
Widgets refresh when you log water in the app or the widget. iOS decides exactly when widgets redraw, so there can be a short delay. Opening Rill once refreshes them. If a widget still looks wrong, remove it and add it again.
Apple Health
How does Apple Health sync work?
If you allow it, Rill saves each drink you log to Apple Health as Water. It reads water data from Health only if you allow that too. Health data stays on your device and in Apple Health. It is never sent anywhere and never used for advertising. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I change Health permissions?
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Go to Health → Data Access & Devices → Rill (or, in the Health app, tap your profile picture → Apps → Rill).
- Turn the Water permissions on or off.
If you said “Don’t Allow” earlier, this is where you can turn it back on. iOS only shows the permission prompt once.
I deleted a drink in Rill. Is it removed from Health too?
Water that’s already in Health is managed by the Health app. To remove it there, open Health → Browse → Nutrition → Water → Show All Data, then swipe to delete.
Your data
How do I reset all my data?
In Rill, open Settings → Reset all data and confirm. This permanently erases your drinks, goal and streaks from the device. Deleting the app does the same. There’s no cloud copy, so this can’t be undone. Water already saved to Apple Health stays there until you delete it in the Health app.
Will my data move to a new iPhone?
Rill has no account or cloud sync. If you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup, iOS normally restores Rill’s data along with it.
Goal & units
How do I switch between ml and oz?
Open Settings in Rill and choose ml or oz. Rill always stores amounts in milliliters, so switching units never changes your history. It just changes how amounts are shown.
How do I change my daily goal?
Open Settings in Rill and adjust your goal. Around 2 liters (68 oz) a day is a common starting point. Rill is a habit tracker and not medical advice, so ask a healthcare professional what’s right for you.
How do streaks work?
Your streak grows by one for every consecutive day you reach your goal. The History tab shows your current and best streak, and a calendar with a progress ring for each day.
