Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Rill ("the app") is a free water-tracking app for iPhone. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
In short: Rill does not collect any data. What you log stays on your device, and in Apple Health only if you allow it. It is never sent to us or anyone else.
What the app stores
- The drinks you log (amount and time), your daily goal, your unit preference (ml or oz) and whether you have finished the first-launch setup.
- This information is stored only on your device, in the app's local storage and in a storage area shared with the Rill Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets (an iOS "App Group"). It never leaves the device.
Apple Health
Rill can optionally work with Apple Health. Nothing is shared with Health unless you give permission in the iOS Health permission prompt, and you can change that permission at any time.
- Writing: if you allow it, Rill saves the water you log (amount and time) to Apple Health as Water (dietary water) samples. Deleting or undoing a drink in Rill removes the matching entry from Health.
- Reading: Rill does not read any data from Apple Health.
- Where it stays: Health data stays on your device and in Apple Health. Rill never sends it to a server, to the developer or to any third party.
- No advertising or marketing: Health data is never used for advertising, marketing, profiling or data mining, and is never sold or shared.
- Turning it off: open the iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Rill (or the Health app → your profile → Apps → Rill) and turn off the permissions. Water already saved to Health stays in Health until you delete it there.
What the app does not do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No servers or cloud sync. Rill makes no network requests with your data.
- No analytics, crash-reporting SDKs, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- No sharing or selling of data to anyone. There is nothing to share because nothing is collected.
- No access to location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
Backups
If you use iCloud or computer backups for your iPhone, iOS may include the app's local data in those backups, as it does for any app. If you have iCloud sync turned on for Health, Apple may sync your Health data between your devices. Apple handles backups and Health sync under its own privacy policy. Rill has no access to them.
Deleting your data
Open Settings → Reset all data in the app, or delete the app. Either one permanently removes everything Rill has stored on the device. Water samples that Rill saved to Apple Health are kept in Health; you can delete them in the Health app (Browse → Nutrition → Water → Show All Data).
Children
Rill is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, including children.
Not medical advice
Rill is a simple habit tracker. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. If you have questions about how much you should drink, talk to a healthcare professional.
